Busy Week

    

     Tuesday, we went to Nashville, where Kathryn and I performed, along with our dads, in an FHU A Cappella Alumni concert for a Herald of Truth fundraiser. By the way, Herald of Truth is doing some great stuff – www.hopeforlife.org or www.heraldoftruth.org.  The event was at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center downtown, and it was an awesome place to get to perform. I thought about trying to set up in one of the dressing rooms as we were getting ready, but a guard showed up. It was also great because both sets of grandparents and Beth got to hang out with Luke. He loved being the center of attention.

     Wednesday night, we watched one of our fathers baptize his son, which was awesome to experience. I then jumped in the car and drove to Nashville, where J.P., Trey and I drove to Atlanta for a leadership conference. Even though we experienced Day 1 on literally 90 minutes of sleep, it was packed with incredible content and really accomplished speakers. Since I didn’t blog much (the free internet was down in the arena, and I didn’t want to pay), I am going to cue up some of the notes and quotes that stuck with me for posts throughout this week.

    I got back in time for the festivities on Saturday (Russellville was packed this weekend for our annual festival). Rotary Pancake Breakfast, Re-enactment of Jesse James robbing a bank, Parade, and visiting Kathryn’s booth made for a busy day. Plus, I think I saw everyone I have met in Russellville in the last 7 months in a period of 4 hours. It was a lot of fun.

      So here is my first quote to think about from the conference. Malcolm Gladwell spoke a great deal about humility on the part of leaders. He used some historical examples about overconfident leaders and the destruction that can follow when leaders refuse to take advice from anyone or build any accountability into their leadership. He made this statement that I thought was compelling – “Incompetence irritates me. Overconfidence scares me.” What do you think?
