The Missing Peace

September 14, 2009

Today was our Family Fun Day at Crittenden Drive, which meant we had a ton of outdoor games beginning at 2:00 in the afternoon. We had inflatables, face-painting, basketball, football, a Wii hooked up to the projector, a bunch of board games, along with hamburgers and hot dogs.  We also had a table with some old pictures taken of Crittenden Drive members throughout the years, which of course, provided a lot of entertainment. Although we didn’t get an exact count, there were easily over 200 there, including visitors and parents from Russellville Christian School.

One of the things we tried as we were eating dinner before our evening service was to watch this dvd – A Missing Peace. Don Humphrey, a long time minister who now works with the Sunset Bible Institute, put together this dvd.  It lasts about 35 minutes, and shares stories of people who had their lives in turmoil before agreeing to study the Bible. It has some powerful stories of radical life change, and also some other accounts of people with more “average” life stories that became Christians. The goal of this dvd is to encourage individuals to set up Bible studies. We watched it together, and then handed out cards to everyone. Those who were interested in a Bible study indicated it, and those who were church members used the cards to write down topics they would like to see addressed in Bible classes and sermons. That way, every person filled out a card, and no one was singled out. It opened up some good possibilities for study, and I am hoping we can capitalize on them.

Here is the info on the dvd if you want to check it out:
